HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating after one man was shot and another was injured in a crash, and a third person fled the crash scene overnight in Hampton.

Hampton police said in an news release officers responded to the 1000 block of Big Bethel Road for a shots fired call about 12:30 Monday morning.

Police said officers found a three-vehicle crash at the scene when they arrived. One man injured in the crash was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Caleb Good lives on that section of Big Bethel near Todd’s Lane. He pulled up and thought it was just a bad traffic accident, but then he learned from his brother that shots had been fired.

“He came out when it happened and he heard six gunshots, came out and saw a car pull off,” Good said.

As officers were investigating the crash, dispatchers received a call about a man who had arrived at Riverside Regional Medical Center with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police said it was determined the man’s injuries were a result of the incident on Big Bethel.

A driver of one of the three vehicles involved fled from the scene before officers arrived, police said.

Big Bethel was closed between Burton Street and Topping Lane for several hours Monday morning while officers gathered evidence.
