VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Runners pushed through the pain during the annual Yuengling Shamrock Marathon at the Oceanfront on Sunday, hoping to make it to the finish line.
But for two runners, getting to the finish line meant starting a new chapter in their lives.
Jason Williams dropped to one knee at the end of the race, facing his longtime girlfriend Mallory Jester to propose.
Around her neck was a medal that said “Mallory Jester, will you marry me?”
“I love you so much, will you? yes?” said Williams, short on breath.
And, she said yes! “I’m like shaking,” said Jester.
Cheers from people finishing the race turned to cheers for the happy couple.
“I ran out the nerves,” said Williams.
Jester says she had no idea this would happen after the run.
Running is more than just a hobby for the couple. The two met while being part of the North End Run Club.
Williams and Jester will be able to walk away with some medals and memories that will last a lifetime.
