VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on the terms of agreement regarding the operation of a planned sports center.
Council approved a $68 million deal in July to build the sports center at the Oceanfront in July.
If the proposed agreement is approved by council, the city will pay the Eastern Sports Management (ESM) to operate the sports center.
According to the proposal, the city will pay ESM $15,000 monthly during construction. When the center is complete the management fee will go up to $30,000 each month.
The city may get some of that money back, depending on how much the center brings in.
Eastern Sports Management will spend an estimated $4.2 million for furniture, fixtures, athletic equipment and audio equipment, according to council documents.
The company also manages the Virginia Beach Field House..
Council is set to vote on a resolution Tuesday night for operation of this sports center.
