COROLLA, Nc. (WAVY) — An early morning fire caused “heavy damage” to a Corolla pizzeria Wednesday, officials say.

Firefighters were called to the Tomato Patch Pizzeria at 4:13 a.m. by the owner of a neighboring business, Lighthouse Bagels, who reported seeing smoke and flames coming through the roof of the Albacore Street Business, according to officials.

When firefighters from Currituck County, Duck County, Corolla, Carova Beach and Southern Shores arrived at the scene fire was coming through the roof of the pizzeria. Firefighters battled the fire for two hours, making sure that it was extinguished and that it did not spread to nearby businesses in the Monterey Plaza shopping center.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no one was injured and no other businesses were damaged.
