Community rallies to support Va. Beach family devastated by fire

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) —  The community continues to support a Virginia Beach family of five after they lost everything in a house fire last week.

The fire in the Pentz family’s home on Spartan Street left two of the three children badly burned, 2-year-old Aurora and 5-year-old Jaxson. They are still recovering at a hospital in Boston.

The third and oldest of the children, 7-year-old Kaira, was released from the hospital a few days before Christmas.

Neighbors and firefighters were credited for rescuing the family. Officials say their home did not have working smoke alarms.

Family friend John Ferguson is an executive chef at the Bunker Brewpub & Cadence Hall. The restaurant hosted a fundraiser for the family on Friday, donating a portion of its sales.

“Its an opportunity for us to give back to the community and as a business to be able to help those that are local and that are in need,” said Ferguson.

If you couldn’t make it out to restaurant, you make a donation through GoFundMe.
