Coast Guard medevacs ill cruise ship passenger


PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Coast Guard was called to help get a 79-year-old man off a cruse ship and to a hospital Wednesday night.

The Anthem of the Seas was 402 miles off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina when the crew called the Coast Guard about a man on board suffering from kidney complications.

A rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City responded and medevaced the patient and a nurse off the ship. They dropped them off at Air Station Elizabeth City where EMS then took them to nearby Sentara Albemarle Medical Center.

There is no word on the man’s condition at this time.
