Coast Guard crew airlifts 68-year-old man from container ship


NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A U.S. Coast Guard crew airlifted a man who fell aboard a container ship off the coast of Virginia late Wednesday morning.

Coast Guard officials said the 68-year-old crew member was on a ship 175 miles off Cape Henry in Virginia Beach at the time.

A helicopter from Elizabeth City was dispatched around 11:30 a.m. and flew the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, officials said. The man’s condition is unknown.

Video shared by Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance showed the helo arriving at Sentara.
