CHESAPEAKE BAY, Va. (WAVY) — The U.S. Coast Guard helped a 50-foot commercial fishing boat that was taking on water off the coast of Cape Charles get back to shore on Wednesday.

The boat called for help around 9:30 a.m. near the Chesapeake Light Tower in the Chesapeake Bay, according to a spokesperson with the Coast Guard.

By the time the Coast Guard got to the scene, the fish boat crew was able to fix the problem that was causing them to take on water. The Coast Guard says they escorted them to Cape Charles.

There were five people aboard the fish boat, but none of the occupants were injured or reported missing from the incident the Coast Guard says.

Cape Charles Coast Station and a Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City assisted the boat.
