MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Federal prosecutors charged a Mathews County woman last week after they say she stole almost $1.5 million from the U.S. government.

Michelle Holt, 52, has been charged with computer fraud and theft of government property.

According to federal documents, Holt was a civilian working for the United States Air Force.

Prosecutors say from January 2002 until June 2018, Holt was altering her time card for her benefit. She’s accused of having fraudulent overtime pay, holiday premium pay and annual leave and sick leave.

They believe in that 16 year period she stole $1.46 million from the Department of Defense.

Holt’s attorney, William Johnson, says his client is fully cooperating with federal prosecutors. She plans to plead guilty December 12 in Newport News federal court.

Air Force officials tell 10 On Your Side she began working as a civilian in September 1992, and it lasted until this past August.
