CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A young Chesapeake waitress had a request for her customers.
She wants donations for animals in need, and her customers have supported her more than she imagined.
Allison McCallister has received so many donations that she is now using a truck to store them.
McCallister says she loves animals and she had an idea to help the Chesapeake Animal services with the hundreds of animals they serve.
“I love animals,” said McCallister. “They make me happy.”
McCallister is a server at Windy City Pizzeria in Chesapeake, which is the restaurant her family owns.
When customers walk in, she asks them for donations for the shelter. So far, she has raised $300 dollars to buy supplies.
“It nice. The customers want to help.” said McCallister.
She has also received dog food, kitty litter, blankets, towels and other supplies.
Dyanna Uchiek is the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinate at Chesapeake Animal services. She says any donations are helpful.
“At times, the facility can house up to 200 animals and food doesn’t last long,” said Uchiek. “I’m just honored she thought of us.”
“The outpour of support from our community and customers that stop in is amazing,” said Kelly Madsen, Allison’s mother.
“I was just doing it for fun at the beginning you know, to see if people wanted to help out and they obviously did.”
She’s been collecting supplies for two months and she’s delivering in two weeks.
So, you have time!
You can drop off supplies to Windy Cindy on Kempsiville Road in Chesapeake.
