CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake police officer has been charged with domestic assault, a city spokesperson confirms.

Senior Police Officer Antonio Z. Spruill was arrested on March 27 and was charged with misdemeanor domestic assault.

A criminal complaint obtained by 10 On Your Side shows officers responded to a home on Old Greenbrier Road where they spoke with a woman who claimed she and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument.

The woman claimed Spruill grabbed her around the neck and choked her.

The criminal complaint says the victim provided a written statement, and her story was corroborated with the 911 call.

Spruill, who was hired in Chesapeake on Feb. 25, 2008, has been suspended from the department.

His arraignment was on Monday, and court officials have not updated the system to reflect when he is expected back in court.
