Charges withdrawn against man accused of firing shots in Williamsburg

UPDATE (Feb. 21, 2019): Charges against Rakeem Turner were nolle prossed –or withdrawn — during a trial in Williamsburg.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – A man is in custody following an altercation that resulted in a gun being fired at Chanello’s Pizza early Saturday. 

Officers responded to call at 12:40 a.m. for a firearm that was discharged in the 1400 block of Richmond Road. 

Police say that the incident began as an argument between two people that turned physical. A third person tried to assist one of the people in the fight by pulling out a hand gun and firing several shots. The suspect fled the scene. 

Police say they arrested 18-year-old Rakeem Malik Turner late Saturday night and charged him with two felony offenses discharging a firearm in public resulting in an injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

No one was injured in the incident but a nearby unoccupied vehicle was struck.
