CHESAPEAKE BAY, Va. (WAVY) — The driver of a tractor-trailer was following too closely prior to a fatal crash on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, police say.
CBBT police on Tuesday released the findings of its crash report into the July 27 incident that killed two men from Delaware, including the driver of the tractor-trailer.
The crash a happened on a rainy evening when the tractor-trailer hit a van in the right lane.
Police said this caused the van to run into a guardrail and spin before it came to a rest blocking the right lane, and part of the left lane. Everyone inside the van survived the crash.
The tractor-trailer went through the guardrail and plunged into the Chesapeake Bay.
Divers recovered the body of someone inside the tractor-trailer the morning after the crash. He was later identified as 29-year-old Christopher Fenner, of Seaford, Delaware.
The next day, a body found floating in the Chesapeake Bay was identified as the driver, 32-year-old Jervone Rakeem Hall of Bridgeville, Delaware.
Police estimated it would cost $70,000 to repair the guardrail damaged in the collision.
