Caver to the rescue, ODU rallies past La. Tech 57-56

FRISCO, Texas (AP/WAVY) — Ahmad Caver made a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining to lift Old Dominion past Louisiana Tech 57-56 in a Conference USA Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday night.

DaQuan Bracey missed a potential game-winning 3 at the buzzer for Louisiana Tech.

Caver had 17 points and seven assists. B.J. Stith added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Old Dominion (24-8). Xavier Green had 10 points and Kalu Ezikpe had four blocks for the Monarchs.

With the Monarchs trailing by 7 points with 1:33 to play, Caver scored 8 consecutive points for ODU.

“Anyone who saw the game knows we were fortunate to win,” ODU coach Jeff Jones said. “We’re offensively challenged and we really struggled to shoot the ball.

“But Ahmad stepped up and made a lot of big plays for us down the stretch.”

Bracey had 12 points for the Bulldogs (20-13). Ra’Shawn Langston added 10 points. Amorie Archibald had eight assists.

ODU will play UAB in the C-USA semifinals Thursday at 1:30. The game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.
