NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A teen riding a tricycle is suspected of stealing a gold vehicle from an Advanced Auto Parts after unsuccessfully trying to take a woman’s car keys at a nearby Food Lion on Friday.

Newport News police say they were dispatched to the Food Lion in the 300 block of Oyster Point Road around 10:45 a.m. for a report of a robbery from an individual.

The 73-year-old woman told police that the suspect grabbed her and tried to take her keys. She also said the suspect had implied that he had a weapon, but he was not able to take her keys.

Before the suspect went into the Food Lion, police say he was riding a black tricycle.

Police say the suspect fled the scene and went across the road to the Advanced Auto Parts store off of Warwick Boulevard. He was able to steal a gold vehicle that was left unoccupied and running.

The suspect, 19-year-old Isaiah Johnson, was later arrested and charged with abduction, grand larceny of motor vehicle and carjacking.

There were no injuries reported in either of these incidents, according to police.
