VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A substitute bus driver was ticketed after a crash between a school bus and a car sent 11 people to the hospital on Thursday morning, police said.
Virginia Beach police spokeswoman Tonya Pierce said eight students on the bus were taken to the hospital for evaluation. There were complaints of injuries from at least one student.
There were 35 students on the bus at the time. Eileen Cox, a spokeswoman for Virginia Beach schools, said it was bus number 190, assigned to Shelton Park Elementary School.
The crash was reported just after 7:45 a.m. at Independence Boulevard and Shelton Road. Pierce said three people who were in the other car involved — one adult and two children — were also taken to the hospital.
Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police said the bus driver pulled out in front of the sedan on Independence Boulevard. The driver was issued a ticket for failure to yield, and has been placed on administrative leave, according to Cox.
