CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake police are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and another hurt.
Officers responded to the 2000 block of Plow Lane around 12:45 Saturday morning. One victim was located and later passed away.
Police later identified the man killed as 34-year-old Jarmel Perkins, of Chesapeake.
“I was just sitting on the porch on the mother and I heard gunshots, and next thing I know I see him laying on the ground,” said neighbor and friend Tahesha Hill.
Hill said Friday was supposed to be a special night for his family.
“It was his daughter’s prom night. She came out here once she found out, and first they told her that he had a pulse, and then 10 minutes later they told her he was dead,” she said.
Meanwhile, police say the second victim appeared in the area of Park Avenue and E. Brambleton Avenue in Norfolk.
While Norfolk Police were working a vehicle crash, a car drove up to the scene with the second gunshot victim.
According to police, the vehicle was on its way to the hospital when it saw police lights and stopped.
The victim was then transported by medics to the hospital.
Neighbors say this type of sensless violence makes them angry.
“I can’t even explain, I really can’t. It’s hard, but I’ve never in my life seen something like that and I’ve seen a lot in my life, but nothing like that,” said C.C. Robinson.
Police haven’t released any suspect information.
