SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Bon Secours is looking to add a hospital to its Harbour View campus in northern Suffolk in response to population growth within the community.

Officials with Bon Secours Virginia Health System on Monday announced plans to transfer 25 hospital beds and up to four operating rooms from Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth to the Harbour View campus.

The Harbour View campus currently offers outpatient care. The addition of the hospital is expected to afford residents the opportunity to receive inpatient care closer to home.

“As the population has grown, the next logical step is to bring inpatient care to the campus,” said Toni Ardabell, CEO for Bon Secours Virginia  Health System.

Bon Secours says members of its leadership are working with an architectual team to determine cost and location for the hospital addition.

Bon Secours says they will be filing a formal certificate of public need to the Virginia Department of Health on July 2, 2018. Officials are anticipating a decision on that in late 2018.
