HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A body was recovered in the waters off Buckroe Beach Sunday after rescue teams began searching for a missing swimmer two days earlier.

According to a tweet from Hampton Fire-Rescue, public safety boats, using side sonar, were able to locate the body around 1 p.m.

Police identified the man on June 7 as 39-year-old Tasket Goldfinch Walker, of Virginia Beach.

A spokesperson for the Coast Guard said his body was found approximately 50 feet away from where witnesses said someone had gone into the water on Friday.

Hampton Fire-Rescue teams ended the search at 10 p.m. on Friday after they were unable to locate the missing swimmer, and the U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hampton dispatchers received a call about the emergency at 7:37 p.m. People on the beach told officials the man went underwater and didn’t resurface.

The investigation is ongoing.
