BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Bertie is now one of a few dozen counties eligible for federal assistance following Hurricane Florence.
FEMA announced Wednesday that Bertie, Davidson and Orange were added to the list of counties that can receive help in paying for the cost of debris removal, emergency protective measures and permanent repair work to damaged infrastructure.
“This is more welcome news as North Carolina works to clean up and rebuild from Hurricane Florence,” said Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.
Dare County was among the 40 previously announced counties.
The counties can receive funds through FEMA’s Public Assistance program — which reimburses governments for the cost of responding to disasters like hurricanes.
