VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A beachfront hotel that overlooks the Chesapeake Bay is getting ready to receive a substantial facelift through new ownership.

The Virginia Beach Resort Hotel & Conference Center at 2800 Shore Drive will be purchased for $19 million by Richmond-based Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners, LLC, which plans to pump $25 million into the property.

The new owners will also rebrand the 295-suite hotel as a Delta Hotel by Marriott, according to a release from the city. The upscale brand is Marriott’s newest (The closest is in Chesapeake).

Virginia Beach-based Commonwealth Lodging Management, which also manages the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, has been hired to run the hotel.

A $200,000 grant has also been approved by the Virginia Beach Development Authority to help Lingerfelt with the renovations.
