VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Officials say a bald eagle that was found in “poor shape” at a Virginia Beach golf course has died.
Officers were first called to the Stumpy Lake Golf Course on Jan. 2 when employees noticed the resident bald eagle — Stump — was often down on the ground.
The next morning, the golf course attendants noticed Stump on the ground again in the rain.
Animal Control officers contained the eagle and called in a wildlife rehabber.
They took Stump to the Altons Keep Wild Bird Rescue and Rehabilition Center in Suffolk, where the animal died 11 days later.
