YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A woman is charged with making a false report after authorities say she claimed she had been sexually assaulted in York County.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched June 10 for a sexual assault that was reported to have happened between 9 p.m. on June 8 and 12:45 a.m. on June 9.

Investigators went to the scene and a local hospital, where they talked to the alleged victim, 45-year-old Kathleen Knott, of Hayes. Based on information she provided, a suspect was also interviewed.

The sheriff’s office said it was determined following a “thorough investigation”, and multiple interviews with Knott, witnesses and the alleged suspect, that the reported sexual assault did not happen.

Knott was arrested for making a false report to police.
