SURRY COUNTY/SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities are investigating after threats were made to schools in Surry and Sussex counties this week.
In a message sent to parents and guardians, administrators said, “Earlier today (Monday) we were notified by neighboring school divisions of a social media post threatening our respective schools. Surry and Sussex Sheriff’s Offices are working together to resolve this threat. We are continuing with our normal operations while using internal safety precautions.”
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office said the alleged threats stemmed from posts on social media.
As a precautionary measure, both school districts cancelled after school activities for Tuesday, Jan. 8.
