Arrest made in Hampton shooting investigation

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — An arrest has been made after a Sunday afternoon shooting in Hampton left one man injured.

Hampton Police said 65-year-old Anthony Leon Bernard was arrested in connection to an investigation into a shooting in the 400 Block of Worster Avenue.

Police said dispatchers received a call just before 2:15 p.m. on April 21 about a gunshot victim that had arrived at Sentara CarePlex Hospital. The victim, 43-year-old Hampton man, is still receiving treatment.

Bernard is charged with maiming, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics.

Police said the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

The shooting was one of several over the weekend across the Peninsula.
