NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — An armed suspect who robbed a Norfolk Walgreens Monday morning and got away from officers could be a serial robber, according to police.
Norfolk police spokesman Daniel Hudson said officers were called to a Walgreens at 21st Street and Colley Avenue, in the Ghent area, around 10:15 a.m.
Store employees told officers an armed man entered the store and demanded money. He then reportedly drove away from the store with cash.
A short time later, officers found a suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over — but the driver refused to stop and sped away at a high rate of speed.
Hudson said officers initially chased the driver, but eventually stopped because of the “unsafe speed and driving of the suspect.”
Police later caught the suspect — 60-year-old Johnnie N. Jones — along E. Little Creek Road. He is charged with robbing the Ghent Walgreens, a Walgreens on West Little Creek Road and a CVS Pharmacy on E. Little Creek Road.
