NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk Airport was under alert after an American Airlines plane had to make an emergency landing Friday evening.

Norfolk Airport Authority Deputy Executive Director Steve Sterling says the plane was flying from Philadelphia to Norfolk when it discovered a steering problem.

The flight landed safely with about 65 passengers on board.

Once the plane landed safely, it was towed back to the terminal.

Officials from Virginia Beach and Norfolk also responded as a precaution for the emergency.
