NORFOLK (WAVY) – Jonathan Schoop is a second baseman for the Baltimore Orioles. His older brother, Sharlon, is a starter for the Orioles’ Triple-A affilate, the Norfolk Tides.
On Sunday, both started for the Tides against the Louisville Bats. It was the first time the two had ever played a professional game on the same team in a non-exhibition matchup.
“”I was extremely excited,” said Jonathan Schoop, who was wrapping up a rehab stint with the Tides.
“We want to play in the big leagues together, but it’s fine too.”
The Tides wound up beating Louisville 2-1, with Tim Melville earning the win. Melville (4-0) pitched six innings, allowing five hits, including a solo home run. Joey Rickard provided the game-winning RBI, sending a two-run home run into the picnic area in the sixth inning.
