A 94-year-old pilot who volunteers to fly patients to get treatment at far away places got a big honor on Saturday.
10 On Your Side’s Anita Blanton introduced you to Captain John Billings, a World War II veteran, last year.
On Saturday, the group Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic honored him and his co-pilot, Nevin Showman.
During the ceremony, it was revealed Captain Billings helped insert spies behind enemy lines during the war.
His story has traveled has touched many within the U.S. Air Force.
“The word of this ceremony made it all the way through to our Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force General Goldfein, and John, on behalf of the chief of staff, I have a letter that he wrote to you. It says ‘Captain Billings, thank you for your incredible legacy of service to our nation as an American airman and congratulations on your selection as Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic’s Airman of the Year.”
Captain Billings has flown more than 425 trips for Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic since 2005.
