7 charged following narcotics raid at Newport News apartment, police say


NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Seven people are facing charges after an apartment raid in Newport News.

Newport News police said in a news release officers executed a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 1600 block of Ivy Avenue on Thursday.

Inside the home, police found two handguns, suspected marijuana and oxycodone pills.

Police said all seven suspects are charged with marijuana possession. There were no photos of five of the suspects charged, according to police.

  • Yolanda Walker, 28 of the 1600 block of Ivy Avenue: Possession of marijuana and five counts of contributing to the deliquency of a minor.
  • Timothy White, 28 of the 1600 block of Ivy Avenue: possession of marijuana.
  • Taekwon Green, 21 of Suffolk: Possession of marijuana.
  • Trashon Williams, 21 of Newport News: Possession of marijuana.
  • Fernando Holland, 24 (no known address): Possession of marijuana.

Booking photos were released for two suspects: 28-year-old Canton McGowan and 24-year-old Linwood Boyd, both of Newport News.

Police said McGowan is charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a non-violent felon, while Boyd is charged with possession of schedule I/II narcotics.
