PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters responded to a house fire Monday morning in Portsmouth that left several people displaced.

WAVY’s Kiahnna Patterson reports six people were displaced and three dogs were rescued from the fire. Crews were called to the fire — at a house on Elm Street — around 7:55 a.m., according to officials with Portsmouth Fire and Rescue.

Officials said responding firefighters found heavy smoke and flames venting out of the second flood of the house. Everyone inside was able to get out safely after being alerted by smoke alarms.

Officials said the fire was marked under control at 8:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was called to help the family.

The Portsmouth Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine what caused the fire.
