3 suspects arrested in Chesapeake armed robbery

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Three suspects who were wanted in connection to the armed robbery of a tobacco store, during which an employee fired a gun at the suspects, have been arrested, police say.

The armed robbery of the Smoke Shop on Western Branch Boulevard happened back on July 17, when three males in a red car pulled up to the store (Chesapeake police originally thought there were four suspects). 

One suspect wearing a bandana went into the store armed with a handgun, according to police. He took several items from the store before getting back into the car. As the suspects sped away, an employee from the store shot at the suspects’ car, according to police. 

The three suspects charged are 19-year-old Matthew Miller, of the 1100 block of Fayatte St. in Portsmouth, 19-year-old Michael White of the 4500 block of Westborough Drive in Chesapeake and 21-year-old Tyler Osborne of the 700 block of Dawn Terrace in Newport News. 

Miller and White have both been charged with grand larceny, grand larceny with intent to sell, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny with the intent to sell and wearing a mask in public. 

Osborne has been charged with grand larceny, grand larceny with intent to sell, conspiracy to commit grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny with the intent to sell. 

Police said Monday the three suspects were arrested and were being held at Chesapeake City Jail.
