Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard said there was a call about the capsized boat around 4 p.m. A Coast Guard crew and a North Carolina Marine Patrol officer responded to the scene.

The three people as well as the dog were taken back to Station Oregon Inlet in good condition.

This rescue came several hours after two people were saved from a capsized shrimp boat. Kenny Rustick and William Grant spent some 14 hours floating in the sound be being rescued early Wednesday morning.

Rustick said they were coming back into Engelhard, North Carolina to drop off their catch because the weather was deteriorating — when their port side stabilizer broke.

The two were able to cling to debris from the boat before they were able to flag down a passing helicopter.
