NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were injured Tuesday evening while working on the installation of a new Ferris wheel at Norfolk’s Waterside District, officials said.

Officials with Norfolk Fire-Rescue said crews were called to Waterside just before 7 p.m.

A panel fell and hit two people who were working on the new SkyStar Wheel, officials said. Both workers were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Officials said there was no danger of any other falling parts.

Construction on the new 12-story wheel started late last week. It’s expected to open to the public at Waterside this weekend.

**An earlier version of this story included a City of Norfolk picture of the installation including a crane from Prillaman’s Crane and Rigging. Prillaman’s Crane and Rigging was not involved in Wednesday’s accident.
