2 adults displaced following 2-alarm fire at Suffolk house

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two adults were displaced Thursday morning after a Suffolk house was destroyed in a two-alarm fire, officials say.

City officials said units were dispatched to a home in the 3500 block of Arthur Drive, in the rural Whaleyville borough, just after 5:45 a.m. The fire units arrived on scene in around 11 minutes to find a heavy fire a single-story home.

The fire was brought under control just after 8 a.m. The house was declared a total loss, officials said.

Officials said one of the home’s two residents, a man, was treated on scene for smoke inhalation before being transported to a local hospital. A firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Suffolk Police responded to the scene, and closed a portion of the roadway in the area.

Officials said the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
