CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Five people were displaced after a fire damaged their Chesapeake home Tuesday night, officials say.
Chesapeake officials said firefighters were called to a home in the 800 block of Bainbridge Boulevard — in the South Norfolk section — just before 9:15 p.m.
Smoke and flames were spotted in the home’s attic when units arrived five minutes later.
Officials said the residents claimed their lights started flickering before they smelled smoke. All the residents and pets made it out of the home safely.
Firefighters quickly got the blaze under control, which officials said minimized damage to the rest of the home. The two adults and three children who were displaced are making lodging arrangements in the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
