YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An 18-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after attempting to escape police in a stolen vehicle with three, underage teens inside.
According to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a Nissan Altima in the 900 block of Capital Landing Road in Williamsburg for a traffic violation around 3 a.m.
The vehicle failed to stop, so the deputy continued to pursue the vehicle until it reached the gate at Camp Peary, according to the Sheriff’s Office. It was determined that the car was stolen out of Richmond.
Tayquan Izell Coward of Richmond was arrested and charged with felony evade and elude, reckless driving by speed, possession of stolen property, grand larceny auto and driving with a suspended license.
A 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were all inside the car with Coward at the time of the chase, officers say. Therefore, he was also charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
There were no injuries reported from the incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
