HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A 13-year-old boy is charged in a shooting that seriously injured a Hampton man.
Investigators were called to the 700 block of Todds Lane at midnight for a report of a shooting. That’s in the Farmington section of the city.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a 35-year-old Hampton man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Police say the individuals involved know each other and everyone is cooperating with investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
So far, the investigation has revealed the teen suspect and the victim were in an argument that turned physical and that’s when the shooting happened.
The Hampton teen has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
10 On Your Side talked with neighbors in the area. Alexandria Ellis, who lives across the street from where the shooting happened, says she saw it all unfold.
“I came out, looked, it was whole lit up with police cars all up and down the street,” Ellis explained.
Ellis says she watched as EMS brought one man out of the home in a stretcher and rushed him to the hospital.
Ellis says she was trying to figure out what caused the chaos, when she saw police bring a weapon out of the home.
“I’m looking at them bringing the gun out, I’m looking at them bring the gun and put it in the evidence bag, so I know it was a shooting,” she said.
