HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One firefighter was killed and three others were injured after tractor-trailer hit their firetruck on I-295 Thursday night in Hanover County.

Hanover County Fire-EMS was responding to a crash on I-295 South, near exit 38, around 9 p.m. Thursday when a tractor trailer rear-ended the fire engine, according to Virginia State Police.

Lt. Brad Clark was pronounced dead on the scene. Another firefighter has life-threatening injuries, and two others have serious injuries.

“Please join Hanover County Fire-EMS as we mourn the death of Lieutenant Brad Clark and keep his family and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers,” Hanover County Fire-EMS said in a statement.

The tractor-trailer driver had to be pulled out of the cab of his truck and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

It was raining at the time of the crash, and State Police are investigating if weather was a factor. Sgt. Keeli Hill tells 8News charges are pending.

The crash has shut down all southbound lanes of I-295 in Hanover.
