HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – One person is dead and two others are injured after a late-night shooting in Hampton.
Police dispatch got a call around 11:30 p.m. for a reported shooting at the Red Roof Inn in the 1900 block of Coliseum Drive.
Hampton Police arrived on scene and found three men with gunshot wounds. Medics took two of the men to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Police say the third man with gunshot wounds, who has been identified as 19-year-old Robert Allen Woodford, Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed there were three suspects armed with guns and wearing masks. The suspects approached a group of people at the Red Roof Inn and begin firing at them.
One of the suspects was Woodford, who was struck by his own accomplice. Police have taken the second suspect, a teenage boy from Hampton, into custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and two counts of maiming.
Police say they are still looking for the third suspect.
The two men who were transported to the hospital were in the group at the Red Roof Inn that was targeted by the three suspects. One of them has life-threatening injuries.
One of the motel guests, Jessica Gibson, said it happened near her door.
“My boyfriend looked out and he saw a car speed off, and he opened the door and he saw a gun, a clip and a shoe,” she said.
A day later, the shock from shooting still hasn’t worn off for Gibson.
“I’m kinda not sure about staying here tonight, but I don’t have anywhere else to go,” she said. “I hope and pray nothing else happens because that was really scary.”
