1 dead, 1 seriously hurt in crash on Shore Drive in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — One person died and another was seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash that closed a section of Shore Drive Tuesday afternoon.

Virginia Beach police said someone driving a 2011 Hyundai Coupe east on Shore Drive crashed into a 2018 Volvo that was turning from the westbound side. 

Police said the collision sent both vehicles into a spin before they came to a rest. Officers were called to the scene just after 3 p.m.

The eastbound side of Shore Drive was at Diamond Springs Road was closed for several hours following the crash. Photos sent from the scene showed both cars sustained heavy front-end damage. 

Police said the driver of the Hyundai was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The driver of the Volvo was initially taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police said they died Wednesday morning.

Speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, police said.
