VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — What started as just a fun day at Chic’s Beach quickly transformed into an unusual marine life rescue.
Megan Flynn, Julie Brandis, and her daughter Vivian, along with friends Riley and Tess came across lined seahorses stuck in a fishing net. Fortunately, they thought to call the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Tanner Council, Hampton Roads Grassroots Manager, knew just what to do. He met the group at Chic’s Beach and the rescue mission began.
According to Tanner, seahorses need a healthy habitat such as underwater grasses and oyster reefs. Both are expanding in the Bay and the seahorse find is an excellent sign regarding the health of the waterway.
