PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Look in the sky all around Hampton Roads, and its not hard to find an Osprey. But that wasn’t the case 30 and 40 years ago. It’s a true conservation success story that is still being told and nobody knows it better then Reese Lukei Jr.

Lukei is a Virginia Beach native and he is a raptor expert in Hampton Roads. He’s been monitoring Bald Eagles and Osprey and many more birds of prey for decades. Chris Reckling recently went with Reese and Chrystal Matthews from the Virginia Aquarium on a field study of baby osprey along the Lynnhaven River watershed.
