Reck on the Road: Norfolk Firefighter Repelling

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Have you ever wondered what it took to become a member of your city’s fire and rescue department?

You learn emergency medical training, ladders, tools and hoses. You are also exposed to specialized training in Haz-Mat, vehicle extraction, self-rescue, and rope training. It can last anywhere from 6 to 8 months.Recently the Hampton Roads Recruit Fire Academy #4 was learning ropes by repelling the wall at Harbor Park. Chris Reckling caught up with them during this weeks Reck on the Road.
