Health Makeover Week - MIND Diet

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Research is still underway, but initial results indicate the MIND Diet may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease and slow the decline in brain function that can happen with age.

To learn more, we visited, EVMS and spoke with the Director of the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology.

Dr. Robert Palmer explained the MIND Diet stands for Mediterranean Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. It combines the Mediterranean way of eating with the DASH heart healthy diet.

It was created by researchers at RUSH University in Chicago and a large clinical trial is underway to confirm whether or not people who adhere to this diet are less likely to develop dementia over time.
