PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Tuesday is a big day across Hampton Roads. The 5th Annual Day of Giving is 24 hours of reaching out and connecting communities with organizations for greater civic engagement. The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia is leading the charge.

Since 2014, the annual fundraising event has generated nearly $2 million in donations for more than 350 nonprofits. Last year, more than $660,000 ws raised in the 24-hour period.
There are incentives for the nonprofits with the most unique donations. This year, there are Grand Prizes, Early Bird Prizes, Challenge Prizes, Social Media Prizes and Bonus Prizes.
In 2017, The Muse Writing Center was the Grand Prize Winner with more than $20,000 in donations and prizes.
