Michelle Karpaitis, of Virginia Beach, and her family found a rodent looking puppy on the side of the road and took her in. She grew up to be a dog with a lot of behavioral issues and the Karpaitis’ had come to the end of their collective rope.
Michelle took the dog, now named Cake, to college and wound up needing a professional trainer’s assistance. Cake learned a little obedience, but her major behavior challenges remained. That’s when Michelle went to work.
She began studying, reading, and shadowing dog trainers to learn how to help Cake, and it worked!Cake became a well behaved canine citizen because of Michelle’s diligence. Now Cake provides therapy to Michelles’s dad.
Tony Karpaitis has Alzheimer’s Disease. When Cake comes to visit he reads to her, walks her and works on giving her commands. This creates an empowering, relaxing, and fun time for him. Michelle says Cake is able to bridge the gap between her and her father when words no longer can.
