(NBC) – “Late Night with Seth Meyers” will be live Tuesday following the president’s State of the Union address.
Seth Meyers’ days on “Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update desk were just a warm up for the past five years hosting “Late Night,” a show that has turned out even newsier than he expected.
“Mostly because we had someone who was an entertainer before, that we would make jokes about before they were in politics, enter politics, so there was a weird crossover that I think dragged a lot of us that way,” Myers says.
A news appetite among “Late Night” viewers evolved into what’s become the show’s signature element, ‘A Closer Look.’
“We had to double our researchers, double our graphics team, ‘A Closer Look’ has probably driven the biggest change in our staff more than anything else,” Meyers says.
“People have an appetite for content that might have been considered a little drier back in the day, and it’s been great for us,” Meyers notes.
That leads to events like Tuesday night’s live edition.
