VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A seventh-grade student at Princess Anne Middle School was selected as one of three kids in Virginia to have their artwork on “thank you“ notes that will be sent to thousands of teachers across the state.
For the second year in a row, the Virginia Lottery put out a call to students in K-12 public schools for their Thank A Teacher Art Contest.
The Virginia Lottery says they received nearly 700 entries, but only three winners (one from the elementary, middle and high school levels) could be selected.
One of the those winners was Kacie Colton at Princess Anne Middle, who was honored with a surprise presentation on Friday.
In addition to the statewide recognition, Colton was awarded a $150 gift card and the art department at Princess Anne Middle School was awarded $1,000, according to the Virginia Lottery.
The Virginia Lottery’s Thank A Teacher Art Contest is part of their statewide Thank A Teacher campaign during National Teacher Appreciation Week, partnered by the Virginia PTA and Virginia Tourism Cooperation.
Citizens across the Commonwealth can go to their website and fill out a form to send a special teacher a “thank you“ note from April 1 through May 10.
