VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Thousands of people converged on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Sunday for a second day of running in the races of the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon.

On Sunday, nearly 10,000 people ran in the half marathon, full marathon and marathon relay.

The winner’s circle included a local man from Virginia Beach. Tyler Muse placed first in the Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon with a time 1:07:48.

Bobby Beasley of Arlington, Virginia won the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon with a finish time of 2:40:00.

Saturday’s events included the TowneBank Shamrock 8K, Operation Smile Shamrock Final Mile and Leprechaun Dash. The full weekend of events included approximately 25,000 people.

The weather was chilly, but much better than previous years, which featured rain and sleet. Runners from all 50 states and around the world hit the course, which stretches from Fort Story to Camp Pendleton, finishing on the Boardwalk at the Oceanfront Hilton.

After the race, runners enjoyed a big party on the beach, which included live music and plenty of beer.

The Shamrock Marathon was first held in 1973 and is a St. Patrick’s Day weekend tradition for Hampton Roads. This year’s main races actually fell on St. Paddy’s Day itself.

Next year’s event is scheduled for the weekend of March 20 through March 22. You can read the full list of winners on the Shamrock Race Weekend website
